12th May was chosen for Women in Maths day as it’s the birthday of the late Maryam Mirzakhani. She’s the first women ever to have won the Fields Medal, which is the mathematical equivalent of the Noble Prize. In the UK, 13th May 2020 will be National Numeracy Day.

As a lover of maths, I’ve contributed my own efforts to these mathematical times – a new book! Published by childhood favourite Dorling Kindersley, it’s called How to Be a Maths Whizz. Full of hands-on activities and crafts for young ones to see maths in a new way, I’m hoping that it might keep some people busy as lockdown continues around the world. They’ll also get to learn more about Maryam, GPS pioneer Glady West and codebreaker Joan Clarke.

Available now at all good bookstores.
